FHS Project Coordinator Blog March 2009

"(Note - This blog was written by the refugee Project Coordinator for this project. As English is not his first language, there may be some minor grammatical errors in his writing. Care was taken to clarify any passages that were confusing, while leaving most of the blog untouched in order to preserve his original tone.)"

FORGE Health Services promotes and protects the physical, mental, and social well being of refugees with preventive and curative care to reduce health related problems in Meheba Refugee Settlement in Zambia. The health facilities here are becoming difficult because of a shortage of donors to provide medicine in the clinics and lack of assistance to chronically ill patients.

FHS with little funds is much concerned and able to promote health programs to large numbers of refugees through health education to prevent diseases like malaria, pneumonia, STDs (including HIV/AIDS), problems like dehydration, alcoholism, and diarrhea, and promote good nutrition and family planning. It is also able to dispense basic medicine to reduce morbidity and seeks the greatest number of refugees to be healthy.

The goal is to achieve the best possible realization of primary health care which means providing the highest quality care. Since the refugee health situation is a need in the community, the country, and the world, there is a necessary need of support from donors to the health program so that we can increase the primary health care quality in a refugee situation.
