Four months after its inception, the Mwangaza Leaning Centers have made a big stride toward its objectives and goals in a community where literacy levels were as low as five percent before we opened. So far a great deal of success has been recorded both at preschool and adult literacy school levels.
The Mwangaza Learning Centers have really enlightened the lives of people who are mostly vulnerables residing in the remote part of Meheba. Most of the people in this community did not have any form of education in their respective countries of origin, so it has been especially challenging to encourage them to see the value of education. Nevertheless, the dedication and passion of the staff has been impressed onto the community, resulting in some positive changes.
With all this success that has continued trickling in time after time, we are convinced that after this project has been operating for two years, the goals and objectives of the project will have been obtained as long as this pace and rate of learning is maintained.
So far, most of our students are now able to read and write the local languages which they could not do before. Some of them could not even hold a pen, but now do it perfectly. Our pre-school kids are just so awesome that they are able to out do some of the older kids from the basic school. Pre-school will be opening again on May 11th, after one month of April holidays. A tremendous step has been made for the adults in speaking English as a second language. It is a dream come true for some of our students who never thought they would see themselves ever holding a pen.
However, the center continues to face some challenges in terms of finances. This has badly affected operations of the project because the learning centers lack a lot of materials and equipment essential in the education and empowerment of these vulnerables.
