Meheba Scholarship Fund March 2009 FORGE Education Fund (FEF)

Summary of project status and achievements:

This month, the new Grade 10s adjusted to Meheba High School and the Grade 11s and 12s continued their studies. The FEF Officer continues to travel to the school each week to mentor the students, and all have settled into a routine. The PM has also started the mentoring program, in which each of the older students is paired with a younger counterpart. The pairs have been meeting once a week to check on each other.

The PM and FEF Officer are also doing a special program with the students, that arose out of interest on the students’ part. Because they do not study poetry at Meheba High School, the PM has shown the students a few poetry books in Meheba Friendly Library and each student has chosen to memorize a poem that they like. Next month, the PM, FEF Officer and FEF students will meet together so that the students can recite their poems to each other and explain their choice. The students have expressed their desire to do more group activities such as this one.

Additionally, one FEF graduate – Domingo – has received his results from the school and scored the second highest grade in his graduating class. The other two students have not yet received their results.

Future activities and projections:

The students at Meheba High School and Solwezi Deaf Unit will be dismissed from class on April 9th. The FEF Officer will travel to Solwezi to collect the deaf students and return them to their homes in Meheba on this day.
