FACE AIDS Mwange - September 2008

Summary of Project Status and Achievements:

FACE AIDS continues to do well in Mwange. The coordinator began to incorporate post-testing into his seminar this month. The other change that has been made to the FACE AIDS program is that FACE AIDS is now having one seminar and one large sensitization each month, rather than alternating these activities monthly. To deal with the resultant cost increases, PMs decided to present the FACE AIDS project coordinator with the combined monthly budget for seminars and sensitizations. He has decided how to distribute the budget so as to make both the seminars and sensitizations function.

The following is breakdown of the current activities under FACE AIDS during August:

Support Group B: The support group continues to function well. The major change this month is that one of the female support group members began ARV treatment.

Sensitization: There were four small sensitizations in the community about prevention of HIV/AIDS and VCT. These sensitizations were held in Sections T, S, O, and N.

There was one large sensitization about AIDS and repatriation this month in the HODI Nsaka with 80 participants, 35 men and 45 women. The Children’s Center Dance Troupe collaborated with FACE AIDS and performed at the sensitization. Seminar: There was a seminar with 40 participants during September. The target sensitization group was single parents.

Sport Program: The sport program offered instruction on HIV/AIDS and sports to 40 Mwange youth during the month of September. A new program will begin during the month of October.

Indicators or Statistics:

Future Goals:

PMs would like to clarify FACE AIDS’ role in the Mwange community. The first goal is to ensure that we are not duplicating services, which will be accomplished through effective monitoring and evaluation. The second goal is to reevaluate the curriculums for the sensitizations and seminars to ensure that we are providing the community with the information that it really needs. PMs will collaborate with FACE AIDS employees in Mwange, as well as the FACE AIDS team in the U.S. in order to determine the appropriate future direction of the project. Substantial Problems or issues: There have been no further complaints from FACE AIDS about clients being turned away from Red Cross.
